Troubleshooting & FAQ

If you encounter issues with voice alerts, missing announcements, or background service shutdowns, follow the steps below.

1. The service stops announcing after some time

This is almost always caused by Android's aggressive battery saving protocols killing background services:

  • Open the app and click the "Grant Required Permissions" button to double-check that battery optimization is fully disabled.
  • Go to your phone settings -> Applications -> UPI Payment Alert -> Battery -> select "Unrestricted".
  • Lock the app in your device's recent tasks drawer if your OS is highly restrictive (e.g. MIUI, ColorOS).

2. Test sounds work, but actual notifications do not announce

If manual tests function correctly but live payments are missed:

  • Ensure Notification Access is enabled for the app. Toggle it off and on again in settings to reset.
  • Verify your payment apps (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm) actually post a notification drawer alert containing the exact amount received. The parser relies on text content in the alert.
  • Ensure your bank pushes a credit transaction SMS alert. Verify your SMS inbox receives the transaction message.

3. Pronunciation issues / Robotic sound

The app leverages the device's native TTS engine. For the best sound quality:

  • Install the official Speech Services by Google from the Play Store.
  • Go to Settings -> System -> Languages & Input -> Text-to-Speech Output. Set Preferred Engine to "Speech Services by Google".
  • Ensure the voice data for your selected language (English or Hindi) is downloaded to your device for offline speech synthesis.
